Photography is an art like painting or sculpture. I can appreciate a fine art photograph that was taken and displayed in its' unedited form. But what really floats my boat is the creative process that can occur, if you let it, by manipulating what the universe has given out. I like abstract ideas in photography, things that you might see in dreams and are on the edge of reality. I like to combine art forms to create something unique, like watercolor and photographs, light and the long exposure, and words and pictures that tell a story never having been told before.

"It's not the Serengeti"...I once read on an artist's statement about her photographs taken in her backyard.  The Northwest United States isn't considered the Serengeti but beautiful, unique, and emotional scenes can be found everywhere.

My love for the Seattle area has inspired me to document the emotional response that wells up inside me just living in such a glorious place.  I was born here and I've never lived anywhere else.  My travels have taken me to multitudes of states as well as many foreign countries only to discover after two weeks away that I long to go back home.

My artistic nature was buried as a child under the guise of intelligence and math.  Schooling was algebra and trigonometry, not drawing and painting.  After high school I took the demanding 20 year journey of motherhood only to return to my buried creativity where I left it as a child.

At 42 and a civil engineer, I enrolled in the local community college taking English 101.  English gave me the rub on the genie's lamp and my creative side emerged after having been denied for over 30 years.

Two years later, I'm in the second year of my quest for an Associate of Fine Arts degree working full time on the left brain and schooling part time on the right.

I love art and photography.  They give me the outlet that I've been craving my whole life.
